Situated within the unique Oude Molen Eco Village, the lodge offers the best in both city and country living. It has the convenience of being centrally located 10km’s from the city, yet a short walk around the eco village will convince you that you are in the countryside!
The 40 hectare estate is a precinct of the greater Two River’s Urban Park. The Black River flows past one boundary and sometimes overflows into our wetland ponds which become an oasis for waterbirds like ducks and geese and even flamingos. Many people come to walk their dogs, watch the birds or ride horses in the wetland fields, while admiring the magnificent view of Devil’s Peak and Lion’s Head.

Day visitors enjoy the newly renovated pool and braai area at Oom Daan se Plaas, parents bring their kids to be entertained at the Playshed, while they slip away to the Local Deli to have a quiet meal in the tea garden and stock up on organic foods. There are also markets to enjoy from time to time like Gaia Waldorf’s annual Spring Fayre which gets bigger and busier each year and the markets at the main hall. You can even listen to live music at PJ’s Blues Bar. The Community Garden offers free gardening lessons to kids on Wednesday afternoons.
Essentially, the Eco Village offers people a chance to come and unwind, exhale, relax and rejuvenate. The horses have a wonderfully healing, calming energy. There is nothing like the call of a peacock or the cluck of a chicken to transport one back to a simpler time. Kids get to see baby chicks following their mothers around – a rare sight these days. There are many ways of getting involved through volunteering if you want to help with any of the projects currently underway to beautify and keep improving our facilities.

We established the lodge in December 1999 and have been passionately building the brand for the past 20 years. We have transformed our building into a warm, inviting home away from home for travellers. Valuing peace and quiet during our own travels, we set out to create a peaceful haven where guests can get a good night’s rest. We work hard with our staff to constantly refresh and renew our interior and exterior. Our staff are friendly and approachable, often going the extra mile to help guests with their needs. We get graded annually and have maintained our 3 star status on the backpacking scale for many years now. It is important to note that we are a hostel with shared facilities and not a hotel. If it is an affordable, relaxed and informal stay you are after, come and stay with us. Our goal is to be a beacon of light in backpacking. We use fresh flowers, candles and incense to create a beautiful atmosphere at dusk.

We cater to domestic and international couples, couples with kids, extended family gatherings, sporting groups, school groups, corporate groups and people relocating to Cape Town seeking temporary accommodation. Our maximum capacity is 72 beds.
